His great reputation kept his neighbours in awe: his fubjects were happy under. his government: he kept up the dignity of a Sovereign of Perfia with great fplendour: his haram .was filled with beauties from all parts of the world; but though he was exceedingly amorous, he h;ad never attached himfelf to any paricular object, he felt the neceffity of fomething more than mere per- fbnal beauty to commajad his heart. P 3 One One day a merchant, who dealt in.beautiful flaves, arrived at Mirza's court, and acquainted him that he had. met with a flave more lovely than any he had eer feen. The King defired to fee her, and was fo charmed with her, that he paid the merchant the full price he demanded, and gave him a noble prefent befide. The King ordered the fair flave to be lodged hi the moft elegant apartments of the haram, and directed the attendants to behave to her with the moft profound refpect. When fhe had repofed a few days, and had recovered the fatigue of her journey, her charms were fo much improved, that Mirza was quite enamoured with her.
