Tending Body, Heart, Mind, and Soul is a collection of meditations focusing on the humanity of Jesus. The writings are based on the gospel texts, often the verses found between the "major" teachings, parables, and encounters. The purpose is to consider how Jesus took care of his own body, heart, mind, and soul. This is not a self-help book. It does not pretend nor intend to document specific instruction about how Jesus wants us to exercise our bodies or express our anger, for example. Instead, it is an invitation to draw closer to the man Jesus, to recognize and reflect on him and his actions. In doing so, readers are prompted to reflect on their own paths toward wholeness. After an introduction, the book has four major sections (body, heart, mind, and soul) and a concluding section which focuses on the whole person. Each section is composed of chapters addressing major themes--for example, the section on "Tending the Body" includes chapters on food, exercise, rest, and touch. Each chapter has two parts: an overview of the topic in Jesus life, and a reflection on one specific Gospel passage which highlights the current topic and moves the reader to a closer, deeper look at Jesus.
