Additionally laid in are two first-day covers related to the Wright Brothers, one bearing a block of four, 31-cent airmail issues stamped "First Day of Issue" and postmarked Dayton, Ohio Sep 23, 1978; the other bearing a 10-cent Air Mail stamp postmarked Kitty Hawk Dec 17, 1968 and then again marked Dec 19 Lakewood, N.J. Walsh debunks the official versions of the story (promulgated in the Orville Wright-approved Kelly biography) -- that the brothers played equal roles, or that Orville dominated. While Orville certainly deserves credit as a stout fellow who was willing to share equally in the risks of financing and actually piloting these early contraptions, the researcher, experimenter, and assiduous craftsman who should get majority credit for inventing the airplane (and probably the "wind tunnel") was Wilbur Wright -- helping explain why their firm introduced no new aerodynamic breakthroughs after Wilbur's premature death.
